Coffee up IMC Community and Substack Subscribers. Thursday is here and we all need to keep on truckin’. On the meter this morning is trade deals. According to the Liar and his MAGA officials the trade deal checks are in the mail. The latest blitz has resulted in an 18% import duty on products from Indonesia passed through to U.S. Consumers and that’s it so far.
Next is the Epstein File Scandal. The Liar was found liable for sexually abusing E. Jean Carroll and that didn’t seem to bother his MAGA supporters. I doubt anything about the Liar in the Epstein files, if they do exist, will bother them either.
Finally, there is the Federal Reserve and Chairman Powell. The Liar replacing Powell and packing the Reserve board with MAGA Minions will throw the country in the biggest financial crises since the Great Recession and maybe the Great Depression in my opinion. The Nation’s economic credibility and reliability are already on shaky ground. But, like landing an airplane, any crash you can walk away from is a safe landing (snark).
PUBLIC HEALTH We’re all in this together like it or not.
Covid is on the rise in 25 states but low nation-wide according to the CDC. The states most likely to experience an epidemic are California, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, and Ohio. Florida and Alabama are leading the nation in Covid viral activity (Hill). Dayum, most of the states on the bubble have a red tinge to them. Bless their hearts.
WEATHER CLIMATE Mother Nature is non-partisan.
Meteorologists and climatologists have long warned that global warming would pump more moisture into the atmosphere making storms stronger, wetter, and longer lasting. Well, that dayum chicken as come home to roost and not just in Texas.
South Korea has been lashed by torrential rains since Wednesday. Two have been reported dead and 8,000 evacuated. 15.7 inches have fallen since Wednesday in parts of the country leading to flash flooding (Reuters). Climate change is a deadly and expensive bitch.
Heavy Monsoon rains in Pakistan have killed at least 54 people in 24 hours. Pakistan has received 84% more rain this month than during the same time in 2024 (AP). Stronger, wetter, longer lasting is the menu going forward.
Flash flood threats are continuing as thunder storms and deluges are reloading today across the United States. The threat of flash flooding continues along the Atlantic seaboard, northern plains, Gulf Coast, and the deep Southwest (AccuWeather). Stay weather aware and have your phone alerts on. Stupidity is the leading cause of death in floods. Turn around and don’t drown.
BUSINESS It’s always the economy stupid.
MAGA Senators are warning the Liar not to fire Powell. The MAGA loyalists are pointing out to the Liar that such a move would send a shock wave through the markets. More importantly, investors, who are already dubious of the Liar’s economic policies, would lose faith in the Nation’s monetary policy and credit worthiness (Hill). The Liar is in over his head when it comes to monetary policy, trade policy, and economic forces. In the final analysis, Trump is only a real estate speculator and not a very good one IMHO.
GOVERNANCE Government in action and inaction.
The MAGA Senate approved the “clawing back” of $9 billion in funds from foreign aid and public broad casting in a 51 to 48 vote. The MAGA House has already approved the budget cuts (Hill). There goes Sesami Street. I wonder if my cable carries the Canadian Broadcasting Network? They carry the Children’s Workshop.
The MAGA House has cleared a procedural road block on three cryptocurrency bills in a vote of 217 – 212. This clears the House floor for debate. The MAGA Reactionary House members flipped back to supporting the rule (Hill). 5 votes. Dayum, elections matter. Voting matters. Politics matter.
Be peaceful. Be respectful of only those you know and trust. Never let the bullies from the left or right silence your calls for truth, justice, and economic equity. Just two retired and V8 Boomer Christian Democrats looking forward to lunch with friends of like mind and scheduling our next Covid boosters. Life requires friends and boosters, thank You God.
